Frequently Asked Questions

I’m new to yoga. Which class should I come to?
We recommend that yoga newbies start with a few Hatha classes. They move at a steady pace and will focus on correct alignment, so you can build your basics and your confidence.  Vinyasa is a more dynamic practice and some experience is recommended.  However, you are always welcome at any class. Please chat to your teacher and let them know if it is your very first time or if you are working with any injuries. You are always invited to move at your own pace and modify the practice to suit your individual needs.

Do I need to book?
It is not essential, but you are welcome to do so online or via the free Mindbody app. Booking ahead guarantees your spot. However, please note there is a $17 no show fee if you pre-book and do not show up; please be sure to cancel at least two hours before class if you can't make it.  Always come along 10-15 minutes before class to check in and get settled on your mat.

I'm a beginner. Can I come to Yin?
Absolutely! Yin classes are amazing for beginners, less flexible yogis and those who want to complement their yang/Vinyasa/high intensity training with something more restorative and relaxing.  Yin is an incredibly stress-busting practice and we highly recommend at least one Yin class a week to keep the body flexible and injury free and bring balance and harmony to your life.

What should I wear/bring to class?
Wear stretchy, comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat, towel and water bottle. Mats are also available for hire at the studio for $1 each. A scarf or eye pillow can help you to relax during savasana or Yin classes. Shoes and phones are not permitted in the practice room. Please leave them in the pigeon holes provided.

Do you have changing facilities?
Yes we do. Changing facilities are available for your convenience.

When does my Yoga Intro Pass start?
Your Yoga Intro Pass is activated on your first visit and is valid for 30 days. You can practise as much as you like during this period – enjoy!

What kind of yoga do you offer?
Check out the descriptions on our Class Types page. Each of our teachers bring their own unique style. We recommend you try a range of classes to find what resonates for you. Every class is different!

I'm pregnant. Which classes can I come to?
We don’t currently offer any specific Pre-Natal yoga classes; however, if you're already an experienced yogi, past your first trimester, and your doctor has agreed that you have no contraindications, you are very welcome to attend any of our classes.  Sona Yoga classes are non-heated and all of our students are invited to practise at their own pace.  Please ensure you are aware of your limitations and know how to modify your practice to suit the stage of your pregnancy.  Let your teacher know before class and practise within your limits; all pregnancies are different and your yoga practice is very personal.

Can I bring my child to yoga classes at Sona Yoga?
Yes! Children over the age of 12 are welcome to attend adult yoga classes as long as they are accompanied by a parent or guardian. Concession prices apply. We also have kids yoga classes during term time for 5-12 year olds.

Is parking available?
There are lots of free 2 hour street parking spots in the residential areas either side of Belmore Road.  There is also a large car park on Avoca Street for the Royal Randwick Shopping Centre, which is just a few doors down from the studio.

Can I buy a gift voucher?
Certainly! Gift vouchers are available in the studio or email info@sonayoga.com for an electronic version.
